Dragons and Lures
Find five wild dragon variants, survive their hazards, and call a chosen dragon with a lure pyre.
Wild dragon encounters
Wild dragons are persistent hostile monsters that spawn one at a time. They target players, villagers, and iron golems, and each variant also hunts a matching animal. Natural spawns are blocked in claimed chunks and all dragons disappear after one second on Peaceful difficulty. A defeated dragon drops 1-3 Boss Loot Boxes and awards 160 normal XP.
Normal biome encounters apply an additional 1-in-12 rarity check. Inside the Valyria encounter zone, all five variants can spawn and use a 1-in-2 rarity check instead. Valyria is centered on the waypoint at -367383, 64, 592383 and extends 5,000 blocks from it on both X and Z. See Map, Waypoints, and World.

| Dragon | Normal natural habitats | Hunted animal | Loved dropped food |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Dread | Mountains, badlands, plains, sunflower plains | Pig | Raw or cooked porkchop |
| Stormwing | Anywhere in the Overworld | Sheep | Raw or cooked mutton |

Calling a dragon
Use a matching lure on an inactive Pyre. The lure is consumed unless the player has instabuild, the Pyre becomes active, and the call completes after 30 seconds. An active Pyre rejects additional lures.
The Pyre makes up to 24 attempts to find supported terrain 80-140 blocks away. A successful call creates the selected persistent dragon 18 blocks above the surface and sends it toward the Pyre. If no safe, collision-free point inside the world border is found, the Pyre resets and warns players within 64 blocks without refunding the lure.
